MAHECAS (UK) sends 100th year anniversary gift to Zomba Hospital
In September 1995 MAHECAS (UK) received a large donation of hospital equipment from Rochford Hospital with an estimated value of £25,000.
The equipment included 26 beds and bed-side tables, 26 baby cots, Ultra sound scanner, theatre tables and trolleys and small items in sixteen medium sized cartons.
This large quantity of equipment posed major problems of storage and transportation.
Thanks to
Universal Cycles' Management who offered free storage space in their warehouse.
As MAHECAS did not have enough funds for transportation, the Malawi High Commissioner put the committee in touch with Mr. Mpasu, the then Malawi Minister of Health.
On behalf of the government he offered to assist with transportation costs, provided MAHECAS found a shipper who accepted payment in Malawi.
In the end, what seemed an impossible task, Zomba General Hospital, received the 40 foot container full of the equipment ready for it's 100th anniversary celebrations.
Some of the equipment went to Chikwawa and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
"Join us in our efforts to restore our hospital to it's former and deserved future glory.
With your help we can make all the difference to the people requiring health care.
What better gift can we give anyone if it is not their health"
