Fund-raising Functions in 1998

Disco and buffet Dinner
Manchester, 4th April 1998
The function was poorly attended because of poor publicity. We hope to do better next time.
We still made a profit of £28.

Sponsored 16 mile Charity Walk
North Wales, 16th May 1998
For a 3rd year running, the event is still very popular with people who love walking, enjoy beautiful scenery and the company of others. The terrain is chosen to suit both the active and those not so active. Accommodation is always available for those who come from very far. The walkers organised entertainment after the walk, and in the evening.
£1,894.88 was raised. Well done everybody

International Cuisine
Boston, 13th June 1998
This is the second time Mrs. Matiti and her colleagues have organised this event. There was food and recipes from 35 countries. A Recipe Booklet was produced and sold at £2.
£700 was raised. Many thanks to all those who volunteered to prepare the food and gave the recipes.

Cultural Dances, Buffet and Disco evening
Liverpool, 3rd October 1998
Florence and Ken Kasambara should be applauded for organising this event. Included were Malawi traditional dances and food, drummers from other African countries, sale of books and music by Malawians and poetry reading by Dr. Jack Mapange. The local non Malawian community, organisations and local community leaders should be thanked for their participation and financial contribution. It is hoped that next time more Malawians will volunteer to come and dance our traditional dances.
The Kasambaras raised £1,036. Congratulations.

Annual Dinner Dance
Essex, 24th October 1998
Mrs. Kabambe and Mrs. Makonyola have organised this event successfully for a third time now. As in previous years the Malawi High Commissioner and his deputy attended the function. Senior representatives from Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia High Commissions also attended.
£500 was raised. Well done !!!
