The walk started gently from Loggerheads County Park before a scenic climb towards the Moel Fammau summit 1,818 feet (554m). Part of the walk was along the Clwydian range of hills, a section of the 177 mile Offa's Dyke, the natural boundary between England and Wales.
The summit, crowned by the remains of the Jubilee Tower built in 1810 marking the 50th year of King George III reign provides extensive views. To the north is the coastal resort of Rhyll and on a rare good day one can see the Blackpool Tower, the mountains of the Lake district and the Isle of Man. Runcorn bridge spanning the Mersey river and Liverpool are to the north east. On the west is the Clwydian valley and in the distance the Snowdonia mountain.
After descending from the hills, the walk continued along the beautiful Alyn River Valley ending back in Loggerhead at a pub. The football fans watched the FA cup final while enjoying their pint. The beer and comradeship compensated for the poor television reception.
Many thanks to all participants, sponsors and those who offered accommodation in their homes to the people who came from very far.
Due to popular demand and the success of last year's walk, I have been encouraged to organise another one this year to coincide with the FA Cup Final on 20th May 2000.
